24 Hour Marketing Plan

An effective Marketing plan does not have to be a twenty page document written in a way that is both hard to fully understand and to in-depth to easily implement.

You can actually create an extremely successful marketing plan in less than 24 hours. So grab some paper and a pen (or your iPAD J) and let’s begin.

One of the biggest mistakes made by many companies in today’s economy is actually understanding what the market wants. If you try to sell something that a person doesn’t want they definitely won’t buy it.

Most profitable markets are made up of people who have an extreme “want” that is not being met and your objective is getting these people to commit to your product or service right out of the gates.

To get a strong understanding of your market, you need to ask yourself some questions:

  1. How much share of the market do you need to simply break even?
  2. What are some of the weaknesses exhibited in your competition?
  3. Is there too much competition in this market or industry?
  4. Does your target audience or market want what you are offering?

It may go without saying, but it is very important to understand who your customers are. By understanding your target audience on a closer level you will need to know 3 things:

  1. What actually motivates them to purchase?
  2. Who are they?
  3. What do they want?

One of the biggest mistakes is confusing a market’s “wants” with their “needs.”  To really understand your customer in full you need to ask yourself this question:

  1. Who is the primary buyer or purchaser?
  2. How does my customer buy?
  3. What kind of habits do my customers have?
  4. What are my customer’s reasons for buying?

The marketplace is saturated with competition so make sure you choose a strong industry that excites or interest you. Once you have your product or niche you need to make a marketing message. Your marketing message will let your potential customers know who you are and what you can do for them so you drive them to purchase. Your first message should be clear, concise and easy. Who you are and what’s in it for them…ever heard of WIIFM?   “What’s In It For Me” The second is your complete marketing message that will be implemented across all your marketing channels. To make this message persuasive and not intrusive, you will need to make sure you do your research and consult with an experienced marketing professional.

Your next step is to create some strong marketing and sales goals.  When choosing your goals make sure your goals are:

  1. Realistic
  2. Sensible
  3. Achievable
  4. Measurable

Lastly, you will need to set your budget.

The best way to do this (giving you have been in business for a while or have access to the numbers from a similar business) is to calculate your CTS or cost to sell.  All you need to do is divide your sales and marketing costs by the number of new customers acquired or products sold.

So there is your 24-hour marketing plan. A marketing plan is a living document…It’s always changing…trial and error…measure everything!  Also keep in mind that getting organized with your marketing will increase efficiency across the entire business.  If you don’t have a marketing plan yet, you are losing money!
